Torrevieja lies on the southern Costa Blanca, in the province of Alicante, and is one of the most remarkable seaside towns in Spain. It is world-famous for its pink salt lakes, a unique natural phenomenon that draws visitors from all over the world.
Beyond this spectacular landscape, Torrevieja offers beautiful beaches, a lively harbour, excellent restaurants and a packed cultural calendar. The town has a truly international feel, with residents from more than 100 countries, so you will soon feel at home.
The climate is exceptional: Torrevieja enjoys more than 320 days of sunshine a year and is known as one of the healthiest climates in Europe, partly thanks to the beneficial salty air from the lakes.

Torrevieja's best-known landmarks are its two stunning salt lakes: Laguna de Torrevieja and Laguna de La Mata. Algae and salt-loving micro-organisms turn the water of Laguna de Torrevieja a beautiful pink to red. It is a unique natural spectacle you can rarely see this close anywhere else. The protected nature park around the lakes is also ideal for birdwatching, and flamingos are a common sight.

Torrevieja has more than 12 kilometres of coastline with beaches to suit every taste. Playa del Cura is close to the town centre and perfect for a day at the beach. Playa de los Locos is known for its relaxed vibe and is a favourite with locals. Playa La Mata is a long, wide sandy beach a little away from the crowds, ideal for families. The clear blue Mediterranean is pleasantly warm here from April to November.

Torrevieja's seafront promenade is the beating heart of the town. Along the Paseo Vista Alegre you will find dozens of restaurants, tapas bars and terraces overlooking the sea. In the evening it is lovely to stroll here as the sun slowly sinks into the Mediterranean. Be sure to try the fresh fish and seafood, Torrevieja is known for its great seafood restaurants.

Every Thursday and Saturday Torrevieja hosts a large weekly market. You will find everything here: fresh fruit and vegetables, local specialities, clothing, souvenirs and household goods. The market is a lively, authentic experience that gives you a real taste of Spanish life. Come early, as the stalls are popular with locals and tourists alike.

Torrevieja's carnival is one of the biggest and most colourful in Spain. With lavishly decorated floats, bands and thousands of costumed participants, it is a party not to be missed.
April
Holy Week is an impressive experience, with solemn candlelit processions through the streets of the old town accompanied by traditional music.
June
On the night of 23 June, Torrevieja's beaches are ablaze with bonfires. Locals jump over the flames for luck and good health, a magical summer night.
August
The International Habanera & Polyphony Festival attracts singers and choirs from all over the world every year. The habanera is a style of Cuban music that reached Torrevieja centuries ago via sailors. Free open-air concerts in the town park.
September
The town festival in honour of Torrevieja's patron saints: a week of music, dancing, fireworks and traditional Spanish celebrations.
December
In December the town is decorated with thousands of lights. There are Christmas markets, performances and the special Cabalgata de Reyes Magos (Three Kings parade) on 5 January.
